A Mote In Time

I have loved you                                                 IMG_1842

For all of my existence

Through eons passed

For time itself.

Our souls travel one path

Intertwined

Reflections of each other

The universe our own.

IMG_1876Stars light our footpaths

Galaxies witness our devotion

Moonlight blesses our passion

All Creation our marriage bed.

                                                                                           This incarnation of our loveIMG_1541

A love that has had no beginning

                                            And will have no end

Bound for a moment on Earth.

                                            This brief encounter

                                            Our journey in Maine

                                           Hand in hand

                                            A mote in time.

The Trees Speak My Name

The trees speak my name in a rustle and sigh

The clouds shape my pain as they rush on by

The lakes drink my tears where they fall as I cry

And my heart begins to heal

I dream the dreams that the rivers know

My heart soars along where the eagles go

It longs for the purity of  Winter’s snow

And my heart begins to heal

Maine’s natural songs are my solace, my ease

The strength of the mountains the cool of the trees

The timeless wisdom of the infinite seas

And my heart begins to heal

My own perfect haven, my “Songs From the Wood”

To speak of my heartache, to be understood

To be cleansed of my sorrow, love life as I should

And my heart begins to heal

As I feast on your beauty you quiet my soul

You whisper of newness in forests of old

You quietly calm me when I lose control

And my heart can finally heal

Breathed My Last

When all my days have come and gone and I have breathed my last

I pray I’ve lived a life that’s full and not dwelt in the past

For I once saw a future bright and full of warmth and hope

But that is gone and now alone I struggle just to cope

With hate and tears and feelings that I never knew could be

I struggle to remember that before you there was me

A person strong and caring who could laugh and love and smile

A friend for life who in times of need would go the extra mile

The woman who you loved once was the one I need to find

Before the “us” that shattered me and left my heart behind

I have returned to home and friends, the people I once knew

They help remind this hurting heart that I am worthy too

And in those unexpected times when colors fade to black

When things occur that make me feel my heart’s under attack

I know that they will be there still to bring me back to “me”

The person whole and full of life – the one I choose to be

No longer sad and torn apart, no darkness in my life

A woman strong and loving not the shell that was your wife

I know that I can find myself and somewhere in that time

I’ll save my soul and heal my heart find rhythm to my rhyme

I look ahead to see the die no longer shadow-cast

And I will dream the dreams of love…

“Fore I have breathed my last

Family Time

Spending a little time this morning planning out my 8th grade son’s studies for the next couple of weeks. In the middle of my job search activities I have opted to home school my oldest son as he loves learning but absolutely hates attending school. Even though I have taken on a greater level of responsibility as far as his actual education, the stress level is lower than that of forcing him to go to school day in and day out when he is so obviously unhappy and I have to question how much he actually learns in that environment.
In my search for unconventional ways to teach my son the things he needs to know, I have been reminded of the children’s pediatrician back when we lived in the Bangor area years ago. We used to see Dr. Leonardo Leonidas and he was a strong advocate of using everyday occurrences to teach your children basic concepts. (And reading! He used to give the kids a new book at every checkup and they still have some of them after 10 years and won’t part with them!) For instance, I remember his telling me to teach counting and basic addition and subtraction by using peas or kernels of corn on a dinner plate! Taking this approach to heart, I have been researching ways to use the Great State of Maine to teach my son (and his brother and sister) some of the things that he needs to know. The State requires a “Maine Studies” component to homeschooling curriculum. I am planning ways to use Maine sites to teach history (Fort Knox, the Lumberman’s Museum), geology (the tourmaline mines in southern Maine) and geography (Mt. Katahdin and the Appalachian Trail) as field trips to incorporate basic studies into the Maine component and make it an “out-of-the-book” learning experience.
I also found (on Facebook) a fellow WordPress blogger – growingwildceeds.wordpress.com who shared a great tip on growing a lemon tree from a seed. As part of my son’s science class this year will be researching, planning and eventually planting a garden this spring, I found this post extremely helpful. It will give us something to start on this winter that we can look forward to adding to our garden this summer and I plan to check out some of the other growing tips as well. The garden will also give me the opportunity to have botany (what types of foods to grow), math (plotting out the size of the garden and how much area to allow per plant type), history (what things were traditionally grown here), English (writing a paper on his gardening plan), and computers (using excel to track his gardening chores and schedule fertilizing etc) all incorporated into one school project.
By using basic math, science, English and history concepts and taking his education from the world around us I hope that he will not only learn what he needs to know to pass high school, but to also function in a real life setting.
